SSAP adopts international author identifiers
Social Sciences Academic Press (China) (SSAP) today announced that it has become a signatory to an open letter of international publishers committing to requiring ORCID iDs for its authors, enhancing the publication experience by better identifying authors and connecting them to their works. At the same time, SSAP announced its support for ORCID’s initiative by joining as an ORCID member, becoming ORCID’s first Chinese publisher member organization.
SSAP will collect the international scholarly identifiers from submitting authors of journals and books, as well as in the through editorial system “iEDOL” (Intelligent Editorial Online), as well as in the SSAP content platform Pishu Database, SSAPLink, Jikan Database and Lieguozhi Database. It will integrate with ORCID’s system to connect authors’ verified ORCID iDs and their publications using machine-to-machine connections.
Social Sciences Academic Press President Shouguang Xie said, “We are excited to sign the publishers open letter and join ORCID as a member. SSAPis committed to promoting the standardization and internationalization of philosophy, humanities, and social sciences in China, as well as delivering Chinese experience, thought, and cutting-edge research to global scholars.”
By signing the open letter, SSAP joins publishers, funders, and research institutions worldwide in collecting verified ORCID iDs to identify researchers. ORCID iDs are used by more than 7,000 journals from publishers including the Wiley, Springer Nature, Elsevier, AAAS, IEEE, APS, IOP and AGU.
“We believe the unique identifier for Chinese researchers ORCID provides is beneficial to standardizing the publication of their research and output,” Xie said. “It can also facilitate academic exchanges between Chinese scholars and international community.Supporting and adopting ORCID iDs is part of our new initiative to promote academic development as a publisher. ORCID will also enable us to establish a better author's knowledge base and provide the authors with more in-depth services.”
“ORCID is thrilled to welcome SSAP as a member and integrator. SSAP plays a leading role in China in supporting the use and benefits of ORCID for ensuring credit and discoverability among researchers,” said Laure Haak, ORCID Executive Director.
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor iD, https://orcid.org) envisions a world where all who participate in research and innovation, from imagining to building and managing, are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions across disciplines, and borders, and time. ORCID provides an identifier for individuals to use with their name as they engage in research and innovation activities. They provide open tools that enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and affiliations. ORCID provides this service to help people find information and to simplify reporting and analysis.
